Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is the study of carbon-based molecules
Remember, the macromolecules: Lipids, Proteins, Nucleic Acids, and Carbohydrates
Glycogen is a polymer; a carbohydrate made of monomers
Adenosine is a nucleic acid, made of ribose sugar and adenine
Never consume an excess amount of cholesterol, a lipid
In Proteins, polypetides are folded together in globular forms
Carbon has 4 valence electrons

Carbon likes bond
Hydrogen bonds connect water molecules together
Every water molecule has a charge; It is polar.
Molecules of water escape as kinetic energy increases, this leads to evaporative cooling
In chemical reactions, enymes can act as catalysts.
Saturated fats have no double bonds.
Triglycerides are Lipids with a glycerol and 3 fatty acid chains.
Ribose is an important monosaccharide in nucleic acids.
